Titambire! Samukele! Welcome!
Welcome to the Dangwa Initiative home. As you navigate through our site, we hope you find the experience thought-provoking and worthy of your action and support.

The Dangwa Initiative believes in collaboration with partners of like mind. To that end we partner with grassroots organizations and local churches to advance our mission. Such organizations have proved their ability to provide much needed services in the communities we serve with very limited resources. They know their communities. They know how to get things done. However, they often lack the resources needed to provide services more effectively. The Dangwa Initiative aims to bridge this gap and empower our partners with practical tools, education and technical support in a culturally sensitive manner.

At DI we believe when a community is adequately equipped with the right tools it can take care of its own. We do not believe physical orphanages are the best environment for our children. Hence we operate a VIRTUAL ORPHANAGE*. This model serves children within their communities without further
separating them from their extended families and friends. We believe the children have
already been through at least one traumatic separation - that of losing their parents
therefore removing them from their grandparents, relatives and most of all the
only place they know as home.

We are committed to making a difference in the world, one girl, one woman
at a time and we hope you can join us in our journey. Feel free to contact

Our Mission
The faith-based mission of the Dangwa Initiative is to empower and restore dignity to AIDS orphan girls and women in resource-limited settings who have been made vulnerable by HIV/AIDS thru provision of tangible and culturally sensitive resources. Through education and awareness, we seek to debunk the myth: sex with a virgin cures AIDS. The belief in this myth has caused an increase in the raping of girls - new born to teenagers. It is a risk factor particularly for children who have been orphaned.
